ALICANTE AIRPORT

Electrical installation in the parking lot of the Alicante-Elche Miguel Hernández Airport. With a long tradition and experience in the short-haul, this infrastructure connects with more than 120 destinations and in 2023 received 15.7 million passengers. A figure that has already been surpassed so far this year, with an accumulated growth rate of 13% up to October.

This large long-stay parking lot, which has 2,300 spaces, has been restructured and modernized, as well as being made more energy-efficient with electric chargers.

From Aiscan, we are immensely proud to have been part of this project, providing our C8 cable trays with the highest level of corrosion resistance in an installation near the sea, and its accessories in the entire pipeline installation.

This project aimed to modernize the electrical installations, integrating state-of-the-art technology to promote energy efficiency, include charging points for electric vehicles, and ensure maximum safety in a high-traffic area.

Challenges

Highly corrosive environment: The parking facilities are exposed to aggressive environmental conditions due to the proximity to the sea and high humidity.

2. High demand for safety: As a high-traffic public space, the facility had to meet the highest safety standards, including E90 fire resistance.

Sustainability: Incorporate energy-efficient infrastructure, including solutions for charging electric vehicles.

Solution implemented

Perforated trays made of high-strength galvanized steel, with the highest level of corrosion resistance, in accordance with the European standard UNE-EN 61537. These trays stand out for their durability in adverse environments and their capacity to withstand the mechanical and thermal demands of an installation of this magnitude.

Main features of the solution

Superior corrosion resistance: The trays were manufactured from steel coils treated with an advanced protective coating, ensuring a long service life.

Perforated design version: It favors thermal dissipation, reducing the risk of overheating in the cables and optimizing energy efficiency.

Ease of installation: Thanks to their installation accessories, the trays allowed for quick implementation, minimizing disruption time in the parking lot.

Project benefits

1. Energy efficiency:

– Charging points for electric vehicles were installed at strategic locations in the parking lot, promoting the use of sustainable transportation.
– The design of the perforated trays contributed to better thermal management, reducing energy losses.

2. Safety:

– The materials used comply with strict electrical safety regulations, reducing the risk of fire or installation failures.
– The solidity of the trays guarantees the stability of the electrical infrastructure in a highly frequented space.

Sustainability and durability:

– Corrosion resistance ensures lower maintenance and a reduction in long-term total cost of ownership.
– The manufacture of the high-strength trays was achieved with less zinc consumption (versus traditional galvanizing processes).

Results

Thanks to this collaboration, the parking lot is positioned as a reference in modern and sustainable electrical installations within AENA airports. The quality of the perforated steel trays and their adaptability to demanding environments have made it possible to meet the project’s objectives, providing a reliable, safe and energy-efficient solution.

This success story reaffirms the company’s ability to offer innovative and high quality solutions in large-scale projects, contributing to the progress towards a more sustainable and safer infrastructure.
